The Asian Development Bank (ADB) commissions the Toilet Board Coalition to bring its Accelerator to Cambodia, accelerating Sanitation Economy businesses in the region. For the first time, the Accelerator will operate in Khmer, supporting entrepreneurs in the sector impacting low-income communities.
This partnership addresses an urgent need in Cambodia. Around 63% of Cambodians lack access to safely managed sanitation. This sanitation gap poses serious risks, impacting health, the environment, and overall quality of life.
The new Cambodia Cohort will run in 2025, and will support three regional businesses, with innovations in the sector such as low-flush technologies and rural faecal sludge treatment. Applications open early next year. To help scale their impactful sanitation solutions, these businesses will receive business model coaching, corporate mentorship, and access to investment.
“Sanitation entrepreneurship is growing rapidly, and we’re excited to bring our Accelerator to Cambodia in partnership with the Asian Development Bank. By supporting local entrepreneurs in Khmer, we will accelerate innovative business solutions impacting lives across the region.”

The Strategy 2030 Water Sector Directional Guide of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) identifies four focal areas for delivering ADB’s support to the water sector. One of which is universal water and sanitation services. Universal access to water supply and sanitation (WSS) services and sustainable wastewater management remains a central element of ADB’s water program to promote inclusiveness by expanding support to address unmet demand and overcome shortcomings in existing service coverage.
“Partnering with the Toilet Board Coalition enables us to further support Cambodian entrepreneurs in addressing critical sanitation gaps. This collaboration reflects our shared commitment to building a future where everyone has access to safe and dignified sanitation.”

This partnership marks a notable step in accelerating business solutions to the sanitation crisis, equipping local entrepreneurs to drive positive, lasting change in Cambodia and beyond.
