Recovering water – Circular Sanitation Economy

Recovering water – Circular Sanitation Economy

By Sunil Agarwal, Director Smart Sanitation City Project, Toilet Board Coalition

Timing to introduce water recovery as part of Circular Sanitation Economy is perfect in India. While the Indian government’s focus is on conservation of water (a long term solution) and provision of piped water (one time capital intensive expenditure) Toilet Board Coalition would focus on recovery of water for potable and non-potable  purposes (both centralized and decentralized solutions based on local conditions). This provides tremendous scope for businesses (big and small) involved in water extraction from sewage – leading to optimum public private partnerships! There is also scope for innovative investment opportunities to fund these businesses – a win-win for all the stakeholders involved. It’s an exciting opportunity for Toilet Board Coalition to bring the government, businesses and investors on a common platform to develop policies necessary for its successful implementation.
