Leopold Bachmann Foundation partners with the Toilet Board Coalition to support Sanitation Economy SMEs in India
The Toilet Board Coalition is expanding its Accelerator programme in India with the partnership of the Leopold Bachmann Foundation. This collaboration will contribute to supporting over ten innovative SMEs (small and medium-sized enterprises) in the Sanitation Economy, with at least five being women-led, aiming to improve public health, dignity, and economic opportunities for underserved communities.
The initiative addresses a pressing need in India, where access to safely managed sanitation remains limited. According to the latest WHO/UNICEF Joint Monitoring Programme (JMP) report, 37% of India’s population still lacks access to safely managed sanitation services. By supporting entrepreneurial innovation in sanitation, the programme seeks to accelerate access to affordable and sustainable solutions while scaling economic opportunities for local entrepreneurs.
“Entrepreneurs lead the way in sanitation innovation, improving health, dignity, and livelihoods across India. We’re grateful to partner with the Leopold Bachmann Foundation as we expand our Accelerator in India, supporting more SMEs driving progress toward SDG 6.” Greg Davies, CEO, Toilet Board Coalition.
These SMEs will benefit from the Toilet Board Coalition’s sector-leading Accelerator, which offers business model coaching, corporate mentorship, and access to investment, connecting entrepreneurs with global business leaders and investors, accelerating progress toward Sustainable Development Goal 6 – sanitation for all by 2030.
“For the Leopold Bachmann Foundation, the entrepreneurial aspect is key. Local businesses provide solutions for local problems. At the same time, jobs and income are generated in the community.” Martin Dietschi, Senior Programme Manager, Leopold Bachmann Foundation.
This partnership helps strengthen the Sanitation Economy ecosystem and advance social impact across India.
