With an academic background in Social Anthropology, Lewis has worked in international development for the past twenty years. In his early career he spent seven years living and working in Moldova, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan leading programmes for the NGOs EveryChild and HelpAge International. These programmes aimed at reforming State child and family care services and built capacity of civil society organisations to promote the rights of older people. Lewis also worked for three years as Country Director for GOAL in Ethiopia running a large multi-sectoral humanitarian and development programme. Prior to joining BRAC Lewis was for six years Chief Executive of iDE UK – the NGO that has pioneered the marketing of water, sanitation and agricultural products to poor rural households across ten countries in Africa and Asia. Lewis joined BRAC UK in November 2014 and is working to build partnerships and raise the profile of BRAC across Europe.
